Summary
Ninja Crusaders lets you pick one of two ninjas and dive into a frantic side‑scrolling brawl that feels like a love‑letter to Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden, but with a sci‑fi twist. Up to two players can team up, swapping weapons on the fly: shuriken turns you into a lightning‑fast tiger that jumps high but only reaches a short distance, while the kusarigama morphs you into a sluggish sea‑scorpion that swims like a dream. The bō grants a soaring falcon form that hovers above the action—though it can’t strike—whereas the rare sword transforms you into an invincible dragon for a brief, one‑hit‑kill burst. Each transformation reshapes the platforming and combat, forcing you to adapt on the spot. The weapon‑swap mechanic is the game’s signature charm, turning every level into a puzzle of when to become a tiger, a scorpion, a falcon, or that fleeting dragon.
Storyline
In the near‑future, a ruthless alien force known as Inimicus sweeps across Earth, crushing the planet’s defenses in a single, devastating strike. The invaders overrun Japan, forcing the nation’s ninja warriors into retreat as their homeland falls under alien control. Some ninjas flee to distant corners of the globe, keeping the flame of resistance alive. The ancient order of the ninja, called the Ancient Ones, devises a daring plan to strike back.
The plan centers on two elite warriors—Talon and Blade—who are dispatched to annihilate the alien menace once and for all. These two ninjas become the last hope of a scattered resistance, tasked with reclaiming Japan and ending the Inimicus threat. Their mission drives the action of Ninja Crusaders – Ryuuga, the NES title that pits stealthy combat against an unstoppable extraterrestrial invasion.
