Summary
Mighty Final Fight puts you in control of three distinct brawlers – the wrestling champ Haggar, the nimble Guy, and street‑smart Cody – each carrying a signature weapon (a huge mallet, shurikens, or a knife) and their full arcade moveset, now rendered in a playful chibi style that sets the NES version apart.
The game adds an RPG‑like leveling system: defeating enemies grants experience points, and every few levels your attack power, max health and a special “tornado” move improve (Cody’s projectile, Guy’s kick, Haggan’s running clothesline). Food and extra‑life items refill vitality, while two bonus stages break up the five street‑level stages.
Boss fights feature childlike versions of the Mad Gear gang, culminating in a mechanized Cyborg Belger. Despite being single‑player only, the mix of side‑scroll beat‑’em‑up action, character‑specific upgrades and the quirky sprite art gives this NES spin‑off a memorable charm.
Storyline
Mighty Final Fight follows the same premise as the original Final Fight. The Mad Gear Gang, Metro City’s dominant street gang, kidnaps Mayor Haggar’s daughter, Jessica. When Haggar learns of the abduction, he teams up with his two allies—Cody, Jessica’s boyfriend, and Guy, Cody’s training partner—to rescue her. The plot is delivered with a tongue‑in‑cheek, satirical tone that sets it apart from its gritty predecessor.
In this version, the gang leader Belger’s motive is absurdly romantic: he wants to force Jessica into marriage after becoming infatuated with her. The heroes battle through familiar city streets, confronting the same thugs and bosses while the story plays out like a comic strip. Each level ends with a brief, humorous cutscene that reinforces the light‑hearted vibe.
Ultimately, Haggar, Cody, and Guy must defeat Belger and his gang to free Jessica and restore peace to Metro City, wrapping up the quirky rescue mission.
