Summary

Mighty Bomb Jack splits every stage into an action zone and a Royal Palace room, the latter borrowing its layout straight from the original Bomb Jack. In the action zones you’ll hunt for treasure chests that hide Mighty Coins, Mighty Drinks and money bags; the coins change Jack’s colour – blue lets him crack orange chests, orange lets him swipe any chest from the side, and green turns every enemy into a coin for a brief burst. Drinks top up the timer by ten seconds, while hidden Sphinxes reveal secret passages.

If you get greedy and collect more than nine Mighty Coins or let the clock hit 99 seconds, the game drags you into a Torture Room. The only escape is a countdown of precise jumps; survive, and you lose all coins, the timer resets to sixty seconds, and you restart the level. The NES version even let you warp to the next Royal Palace room by touching the first lit bomb after clearing the other twenty‑three, though a misstep sent you back to the level’s start.

A 1986 Japanese Vs. Series edition added two‑player support, shuffled some secret passages and stripped out the warp trick. The title later popped up in Tecmo Super Bowl’s halftime show and resurfaced on the Wii (2007), 3DS (2012), Wii U (2014) and Nintendo Classics service (2018), with the PAL‑A cartridge limited to Australia.

Storyline

In Mighty Bomb Jack, Jack must navigate sixteen pyramid levels, battling enemies and solving puzzles. His goal is to defeat the demon Belzebut and free the royal Pamera family trapped within. The game’s setting confines the action to a single massive pyramid, giving each stage a distinct theme. As the player progresses, the difficulty ramps up, culminating in a final showdown with Belzebut. Success restores peace to the Pamera dynasty.
