Play Mickey Mouse - Dream Balloon (Proto) Online

Summary

I recently stumbled upon a curious piece of Nintendo history: the prototype English‑language version of Mickey Mouse III: Balloon Dreams, known in the West as Mickey Mouse Dream Balloon. Because Kemco of U.S.A. didn’t hold Disney licensing rights at the time, the build was abandoned, leaving behind a cartridge riddled with broken Engrish that reads like a 1990s mistranslation exercise. Aside from a handful of cutscenes, the game is almost word‑free, so the garbled text never really gets in the way of the platforming action. It’s also the odd one out in Kemco’s Mickey Mouse lineup – the only title that never made it to the Game Boy and the sole entry that swaps the series’ usual genre for a straight‑up side‑scroll adventure. Discovering this lost prototype feels like unearthing a secret level in a retro favorite, a reminder of how licensing quirks can freeze an entire version of a game in limbo.
