Summary
Magnum Kiki Ippatsu: Empire City 1931 brings the frantic feel of a 1930s shooting gallery straight to the Famicom controller. You steer a cross‑hair with the joystick, hunting mobsters one by one while an on‑screen arrow nudges you toward the next target, and a speech‑bubble timer warns when the clock is about to run out. Hidden ammo crates keep you from running dry, and gold bars reward precision shooting, while a single‑use defend button offers a last‑ditch chance to dodge a bullet. The game’s structure is simple yet addictive: clear each stage by eliminating a set number of thugs, then face a lone mob boss who appears briefly in a building window for a one‑shot finish, after which the whole loop starts over. A four‑character password lets you pick up where you left off, and despite its limited Japanese release, the title earned a spot among the top arcade tables in 1986 and even inspired Seibu Kaihatsu’s later sequel, Dead Angle.
Storyline
Magnum Kiki Ippatsu – Empire City – 1931 drops you into a gritty 1931 New York City where you play as a young FBI agent on a personal vendetta. After a gang shootout claims his family members, he spends several months hunting down the mobsters responsible, taking down increasingly powerful thugs as the story progresses.
The climax arrives in the final level, where the agent finally confronts the mafia boss. He has only one shot to pull off the assassination as the boss walks past a series of windows in a high‑rise building, making timing the only chance for revenge.
