Summary
The Magic of Scheherazade (often just called Magic of Scheherazade) fuses fast‑paced, top‑down action with classic turn‑based RPG combat, letting you wander a stylized Arabian world that feels both open and tightly structured. Each chapter drops you into a new realm where you must locate a palace and defeat the resident demon, while the fifth chapter delivers the final showdown.
At the start you pick a Fighter, Magician, or Saint, and the choice isn’t cosmetic: Fighters swing heavy swords, Magicians fire powerful rods but wield a weak dagger, and Saints rely on special boots that protect them from hazardous floors. These class quirks shape both your real‑time attacks on the overworld map and the strategic commands you issue in the party‑vs‑party battles.
The map is peppered with towns, deserts, forests, and even underwater zones, each offering NPCs who hand out quests, sell gear, or let you change class at a mosque. Time Gates transport you to the same spot in past, present, or future, reshaping the environment. You can hire mercenary troopers, learn formations at Magic Universities, and bribe foes when a turn‑based encounter pops up.
The NES English release trims the overworld, swaps several sprites, adds character dialogue, and introduces a fresh soundtrack, giving the game a distinct retro flavor while preserving its hybrid gameplay core.
Storyline
The Magic of Scheherazade (NES) draws from One Thousand and One Nights, set in an Arabian fantasy world. It follows an amnesiac hero, the unnamed descendant of the magician Isfa, who must rescue Princess Scheherazade from the evil wizard Sabaron.
Years earlier, the malevolent demon Goragora and his minions were sealed by Isfa using the power of the blue star Airosche. Sabaron broke the seal, freed Goragora, and imprisoned Scheherazade’s family.
The hero is greeted by the cat‑like spirit Coronya, who can open a passage to travel through time. He traverses five worlds, regaining his memories, learning new magic, and recruiting allies.
After rescuing Scheherazade’s three sisters and her father, the protagonist confronts Sabaron, who realizes releasing Goragora was a mistake. The hero then enters the Dark World, defeats Goragora, and restores tranquility to Arabia.
Thanked by Scheherazade and her family, the hero promises to return as he and his party depart on a magic carpet toward their next adventure.
