Summary

Lemmings on the NES delivers a mind‑boggling puzzle experience, letting you command a wacky herd of misdirected rodents with surprisingly fluid animation and a simple, addictive loop. Each level drops lemmings from a trap door, marching forward until you intervene with one of eight limited skills—Climbers, Floaters, Bombers, Blockers, Builders, Bashers, Miners, and Diggers—to reshape terrain or alter behavior.

The goal is to shepherd a required percentage of the crowd to the exit before time runs out, navigating four difficulty tiers (Fun, Tricky, Taxing, Mayhem). You can pause to survey the layout, tweak the release rate up to 99, or even "nuke" the remaining lemmings, turning them into Bombers for a last‑ditch blast.

A standout feature is the 20 split‑screen two‑player levels, where each competitor controls a different‑coloured lemming horde and races to fill their own base. The game’s clever blend of strategy and real‑time action helped cement its legacy as a beloved classic that still influences puzzle design today.
