Summary

Last Armageddon drops you into a bleak, post‑apocalyptic world where mutant squads battle relentless robot hordes. The combat feels familiar to anyone who’s spent time with classic turn‑based RPGs, presenting battles from a third‑person angle and letting both sides unleash spells and physical attacks.

What sets it apart is the day‑night mechanic: you manage two separate parties of four monsters, one active by day and the other by night. There’s no automatic HP or MP recovery between shifts, so you rely on items, the “Shell Key” spell, or the “Kuizzu” cure to keep your troops alive. Some spells even poison enemies, adding a tactical layer to each encounter.

The Famicom version strips away the monster encyclopedia found elsewhere and sports its own soundtrack, a reminder that a different studio handled this port. Ultimately, you’re never the robot—you’re the desperate mutant army fighting to reclaim a world overrun by metal.

Storyline

In Last Armageddon, humanity’s fate is grim: the people who breathed the toxin‑filled air on Earth merged with the planet and dissolved, ending human history. The vacuum left behind is filled by mutant demons that no longer need oxygen, allowing them to roam the ruined surface freely. Meanwhile, an army of robots launches World War IV, arriving on a wave of energy that detonates a cataclysmic explosion and turns the world into a wasteland, intent on conquering Makai – the Demon World. Inside one of their main bases the game reveals disturbing themes such as Adolf Hitler, the quest for a perfect race, and the 1999 destruction of humanity. The player must side with the mutant demons, using their numbers to crush the robotic invaders and decide whether the demons will reclaim the old planet or the robots will impose a millennium of logical, dictatorial rule.
