Summary

Kouryu Densetsu Villgust Gaiden, often just called Villgust Gaiden, is a hidden gem of the NES era. Though it never left Japan, the game packs a surprisingly deep RPG experience, blending turn‑based combat with a quirky fantasy setting. TOSE’s programming shines through the sprite work and the atmospheric chiptune score, while Angel (Bandai) handled the publishing. Players guide the titular hero through a series of side‑quests that feel more like a tabletop adventure than a typical platformer. Its rarity and charm have turned it into a collector’s favorite among retro enthusiasts.
