Summary

Kid Klown in Night Mayor World drops you into a whimsically dangerous kingdom where the only weapon is a handful of magic balloons. The intro’s cheeky “I just \"nose\" you can't wait” sets the tone for a game that feels half comedy act, half platform puzzle.

What many players don’t realize is that this NES title is actually a re‑skinned version of Japan’s Mickey Mouse III: Balloon Dreams, a Mickey‑themed platformer never released outside Japan. Kemco rebranded it for the Western Crazy Castle series, swapping the mouse for Kid Klown and the original soundtrack for something a bit more… American.

The balloons aren’t just for show: they let you attack, boost your jumps, and even float across gaps. Seven themed levels each end with a bonus arena where extra lives and energy can be snatched, while the level‑select screen (originally set to “It’s a Small World”) got its own musical makeover for the US release.

Boss fights were altered for the overseas audience too—vultures become owls, a Jack‑and‑the‑Beanstalk giant turns into a cyclops, and the final showdown trades the Horned King for the titular Night Mayor, giving the game its quirky, clown‑themed climax.

Storyline

Kid Klown and his family are traveling to a circus when they encounter the mysterious magician Night Mayor—a playful pun on “nightmare.” The magician asks Kid Klown to help open a treasure vault, but Kid, warned by his parents about the evil sorcerer, refuses the request. Angered, Night Mayor kidnaps the entire family and taunts Kid Klown, daring him to enter his twisted world if he ever wants to see them again.

Determined to rescue his loved ones, Kid Klown steps through the portal into Night Mayor’s bizarre realm, where he must navigate surreal challenges and confront the magician’s dark tricks. The game follows his quest to outwit Night Mayor, free his family, and restore the circus performance they were meant to enjoy.
