What’s especially fun is that the game is actually a re‑skin of the Japan‑only Mickey Mouse III: Balloon Dreams, a title that originally lived in the Crazy Castle line. When Kemco brought it to the NES they swapped Mickey for Kid Klown, replaced the original "It’s a Small World" menu tune, and swapped several boss characters – an owl replaces a Jungle Book vulture, a cyclops stands in for the Giantland giant, and the final showdown pits you against the Night Mayor instead of the Horned King.

The stage select screen offers seven themed worlds, each ending with a bonus round where extra lives and energy can be scooped up. The game launched the Kid Klown series, which later branched out onto SNES, PlayStation and handhelds, keeping the balloon‑based chaos alive across generations.

Storyline

Kid Klown and his family are traveling to a circus when they encounter the mysterious magician Night Mayor—a clear pun on “nightmare.” The magician asks Kid Klown to help open a treasure vault, but Kid Klown, having been warned by his parents about the evil magician, refuses. Angered, Night Mayor kidnaps the entire family and challenges Kid Klown to follow him into his own world if he ever wants to see them again. The game, Kid Klown in Night Mayor World, then follows the clown’s daring quest through the magician’s twisted realm to rescue his loved ones.
