Summary

Jurassic Park on the NES drops you into the film’s island as Dr. Alan Grant, navigating maze‑like zones to rescue stranded workers, snatch dinosaur eggs and grab key access cards. The top‑down shooter mixes frantic gunplay—ammo is scarce and most dinosaurs die to scattered rifles—with frantic avoidance of the unstoppable T. rex, which can only be ducked. Mystery boxes pepper each level, handing health boosts, temporary invincibility, extra lives, or a nasty penalty, keeping every run tense. The game unfolds across six distinct stages, each with its own objectives from shutting down Velociraptor nests to restoring power, and supports a two‑player turn‑based mode, three lives and four continues. Critics loved it: AllGame gave it 4/5, Nintendo Power praised its open‑world feel and controls, and the graphics earned special mention for making the dinos feel menacing. A 2023 Classic Games Collection re‑release brought the original NES experience to modern consoles, celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Storyline

Jurassic Park on the NES kicks off right after the T‑rex slams the visitor’s van into a pit. You control Dr. Alan Grant, who must locate the park’s grandchildren, Tim and Lex, and guide them back to the visitor’s center. The island’s power is down because of a computer malfunction, so the dinosaurs are roaming free.

Grant’s missions include re‑activating the park’s main computers, planting time‑bombs to destroy Velociraptor nests, and making his way to the dock where he can radio for help. After the dock, he fights his way to the helipad and signals a rescue helicopter.

The game ends with Grant walking onto a small stage that lists the developers’ names, then stepping through an exit to finish the adventure.
