Summary
Jongbou feels like a love‑child of Breakout and Mahjong, a quirky experiment that only ever saw a Japanese release on the Famicom. SNK teamed up with Micronics to mash the classic brick‑busting formula with the tile‑matching rhythm of the Chinese board game, and the result is a one‑player puzzler that’s as odd as it’s addictive.
You control a paddle at the bottom, ricocheting a ball through a wall of betting tokens. Once the ball breaks through, hidden Mahjong tiles tumble. Hitting a tile flips it, and a second pass lets you catch it by moving the paddle underneath its fall. Power‑ups – partial walls, slow‑down forcefields, and a "reveal all" tile – help without losing the ball, which costs a life.
The Mahjong side is stripped to its core: collect Chows, Pungs and Kongs until your hand of thirteen (fourteen while discarding) forms a legal winning set plus a pair. Tiles include Characters, Bamboo, Wheels, the three dragons and seasonal or floral bonuses; only seasons and flowers don’t need multiples. The goal isn’t betting or multiplayer, just assemble a winning hand before the last tile drops.
