Summary

Jaws on the NES gives you the uneasy thrill of juggling a sailboat and a scuba diver as you scour the ocean for conch shells. The overhead map feels like an uneasy patrol, peppered with hostile sea creatures that trigger side‑view underwater battles, while a receiver device lets you hear the shark’s proximity. Occasionally the great white’s dorsal fin slices the surface, prompting a frantic boat chase where depth charges and timed bow jabs become the only way to finish the hunt. Extras like a randomly appearing submarine, upgradeable weaponry, and a hidden bonus stage that drops cannonballs from a fly‑over plane keep the loop from feeling static. Critics praised its quirky sound work – Shinichi Sakamoto’s shifting volumes mimic rolling waves – and while some reviewers called the visuals dull, the game still earned a nod for its inventive blend of sailing, diving, and shark‑chasing mechanics.
