Summary

"Hook" on the NES drops me into a colourful side‑scrolling adventure where Peter Pan can both flap his way across the sky and dive beneath the waves. Every stage is hand‑drawn with its own mini‑map, and I have to gather keys and other items to unlock the next zone while dodging Hook’s henchmen, drifting ghosts, shambling zombies and a mischievous troop of banana‑tossing monkeys.

Before each segment Tinker Bell pops up, offering a quick tip. If my health crashes to zero she can even resurrect me, feeling like a built‑in cheat for impatient players. The game even includes a two‑player mode, so friends can race through the 16 levels together. Released in April 1992 by Sony Imagesoft and built by Painting by Numbers, the NES and Game Boy versions are virtually twin copies, with the handheld squeezing in a few extra stages.

Storyline

In the NES platformer Hook, you step into the shoes of Peter Pan. The game drops you straight into Neverland, where Captain Hook has snatched Peter’s children. Your mission is to traverse the island’s varied zones, battling enemies and solving simple puzzles to track down the kidnapped kids.

The journey builds toward a final showdown on the pirate ship’s deck, where Peter faces Hook in a classic sword duel. Defeating Hook rescues the children and ends the adventure.
