Summary
Miracle Warriors: Seal of the Dark Lord (Haja no Fūin) wraps its RPG experience in a four‑panel screen that constantly reminds you what matters. The lower‑left quadrant tracks each party member’s life and experience bars, while the lower‑right shows the party’s shared resources like guilders and fangs. In the upper‑left you’ll see the current environment—whether it’s a bustling town, a dim cave, or the enemy you’re about to face—whereas the upper‑right flips between a world map, the battle menu, or dialogue options depending on the situation. Combat is turn‑based but unforgiving: you pick a single character to strike, then the foe retaliates, often with area spells that can set the whole party asleep and then scorch them with fire. Talking to certain monsters can yield hints, and the currency system is layered—guilders buy supplies, while fangs, earned from victorious battles, can be traded for rare gear or cash, and even affect your fame, which gates access to some villages.
Storyline
In the NES title Haja no Fuuin (known in English manuals as "Seal of the Dark Lord"), the demon queen Terarin has broken the Golden Seal and opened Pandora’s Passage, unleashing dark creatures across the land. A young, nameless hero—identified as Argus in the Famicom version—is summoned by the king to follow the footsteps of his ancestor Iason, who once sealed the demoness in another dimension.
To succeed, the hero must recruit three allies: Guy the warrior, Medi the amazon, and Treo the pirate (called Turo in the English manual). Together they search for three keys hidden in an underground temple and locate ancient mystical weapons and armor. With these tools they confront Terarin in her lair, defeat her, and reseal the Dark Lord to restore peace.
