Summary

Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode, sometimes called Golgo 13 Episode 1: Twilight of the Gods, is an NES action game that pulls its roots straight from the long‑running manga series. The title’s subtitle hints at a darker, almost mythic tone, which the pixel‑art stages try to capture despite the console’s modest hardware.

The gameplay leans heavily on precise shooting and timing, echoing the cold‑blooded professionalism of the titular assassin. Even though the graphics are simple by today’s standards, the game’s use of limited color palettes and sprite animation gives it a gritty, noir feel that fans of the comic will recognize.

For collectors, the cartridge is a quirky footnote in Nintendo’s library—a 1988 release that never saw a wide Western push, making it a sought‑after piece for anyone hunting obscure manga‑based titles.

Storyline

In Golgo 13 - Dai 1 Shou - Kamigami no Tasogare, you step into the shoes of the legendary assassin Duke Togo, better known as Golgo 13. His mission is to take out the leader of the shadowy Drek organization. The plot kicks off when a helicopter carrying a vial of the lethal bacillus “Cassandra G” crashes near the Statue of Liberty, and the dangerous sample vanishes from the wreckage. As you chase clues, the game takes you across a globe‑spanning trail that includes gritty streets of East Berlin, sun‑baked alleys of Athens, the bustling docks of Rio de Janeiro, and finally the icy expanse of Alexander Island off Antarctica. Each location serves as a distinct act where you must infiltrate, fight, and ultimately confront the Drek leader.
