Summary

God Slayer: Haruka Tenkuu no Sonata, better known abroad as Crystalis, is a hidden gem from SNK’s early console era. Though it never left Japan’s Famicom shelves, the game blends fast‑paced action with classic RPG depth, offering a bright, post‑apocalyptic world to explore. Its polished sprite work and memorable soundtrack hint at the quality that would later define SNK’s arcade hits. For collectors and retro fans, tracking down a copy feels like uncovering a lost piece of gaming history.

Storyline

When the Great War shattered civilization, sorcery rose to fill the void and a century of peace followed. An ambitious magician named Draygon broke that calm, using his dark powers to conquer and sow chaos. To stop him, the remaining magicians forged four elemental swords—wind, fire, water and thunder—that could combine into the ultimate weapon, the sword Crystalis, but Draygon seized and scattered them across the land. The only hope was a young magician, frozen in a cave since the war, whose memory was wiped clean when the magicians revived him. In CRYSTALIS, you awaken as that amnesiac hero and must trek through Draygon’s hostile realm, reclaim the elemental blades, and reforge Crystalis to end his reign of evil.
