Fist of the North Star on the NES feels like a love‑letter to classic side‑scroll beat‑'em‑ups, but with a handful of quirks that set it apart from its Famicom sibling. The core loop is simple: walk right, punch, kick, and hunt for the occasional star that upgrades Kenshiro’s moves from basic blows to rapid combos, a reflective shield, and even a projectile attack when you press AB together. Power‑ups are color‑coded – white stars boost you to the fourth level, then black stars take you higher – and hitting the max level makes Kenshiro rip his shirt open for extra defense.

The Japanese version throws random side projectiles and forces you to hit the first two mini‑bosses in the head, making it noticeably tougher. It also keeps the end‑stage NPC cameos and drops you into Stage 4 on a continue, whereas the U.S. release swaps Kenshiro’s black outfit for blue, replaces the "abeshi" and "hidebu" icons with plain stars, strips the NPCs, and lets you resume from the exact stage you died on.

Boss design is a highlight: each foe has a weak spot that, when struck first, yields massive damage and a bonus. Storyline

In the NES game Fist of the North Star (also known as Hokuto no Ken), the story picks up after the death of the tyrant Raoh. The Central Imperial Capital, once ruled by the Tentei, falls into chaos. Kenshiro returns to aid the now‑grown Bat and Rin, who are leading the Hokuto Army’s resistance against the Tentei’s corrupt forces.

Venturing deeper into the capital, Kenshiro must face the Four Generals of Gento. Their leader, Falco the Gold, stands as the final obstacle. Defeating them will determine the fate of the shattered empire.
