Summary

Fire 'n Ice (aka Solomon’s Key 2) is a puzzle NES title where you control Dana tasked with dousing every flame on each screen. You do this by conjuring ice blocks that slide across the grid or by dropping ice onto the fire from above, much like the mechanics of Lode Runner. Dana can also kick ice, push it, and climb onto single‑tall blocks, while pipes and jars add extra hazards as the puzzles progress.

The game packs 10 worlds of 10 stages each, and the English version relies on a password system whereas the Japanese cartridge includes a save battery. A hidden cheat code unlocks a sound‑test room and 50 bonus stages. For creative players, a built‑in stage editor lets you design your own puzzles, though only the Japanese release lets you keep them, and the editor is known to expose quirky bugs.

Storyline

Fire 'n Ice' opens with a grandmother gathering her grandchildren around a fireplace and beginning an old tale. The story is set on Coolmint Island, a frozen land far to the north where winter fairies live in peace. One day the evil wizard Druidle appears and unleashes flame monsters that threaten to melt the island. The Fairy Queen summons the apprentice wizard Dana, granting him ice magic to battle the fire creatures and restore balance. Framed as a prequel to Solomon's Key, the narrative follows Dana’s courage and wisdom as he extinguishes the flames and saves Coolmint Island.
