Summary
Famicom Jump: Hero Retsuden (often just called Famicom Jump) is a nostalgic 8‑bit RPG that was released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump. Bandai packed the cartridge with a roster of sixteen iconic Jump heroes—from Son Goku and Kenshiro to Kinnikuman and Seiya—letting players recruit them as allies to tackle the game’s overworld challenges. The title also pulls in a surprising mix of lesser‑known series such as *Tsuide ni Tonchinkan*, *Doberman Deka* and *Godsider*, making it a quirky time capsule of late‑80s manga culture. It sold roughly 1.1 million copies in Japan, becoming the inaugural entry in the Jump video‑game line and spawning a sequel, *Famicom Jump II: Saikyō no Shichinin*. Despite its ambitious crossover, Famitsu gave it a modest 21 out of 40, a score that only adds to its cult‑classic charm for retro collectors today.
Storyline
Famicom Jump – Eiyuu Retsuden (often just called Jump Hero Legends) drops you into a single world that stitches together the many long‑running series featured in Weekly Shōnen Jump. You control a lone protagonist who roams this crossover landscape, bumping into a roster of familiar Jump heroes from both past classics and the newer titles that were current at the time of release. As you meet each hero, they join the effort to thwart a massive alliance of the series’ most powerful and evil villains. The game’s premise is essentially a grand team‑up: the combined forces of the Jump heroes must stop the villain coalition from conquering the world.
