Summary
Dungeon Magic: Sword of the Elements drops you into a first‑person, real‑time maze that feels like a blend of Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder. You wander a network of towns and dungeons, buying food and water, resting at inns or camp sites, and choosing whether to save after each night’s stop. Progression isn’t measured by traditional level tables; instead you must visit the village “wise men” with enough experience to receive a baptism before you can advance.
The standout is its rune‑based magic system: each of the five elements—earth, water, wind, fire, and fairy—provides three runes, and any combination yields 243 distinct spells. Because the game lacks a mana pool, some powerful effects actually cost hit points, which makes spell choice a strategic trade‑off. Fairy magic can reveal a world map, uncover hidden treasure, or even transport you to the realm of the fairies, while fire, earth, and water spells range from wall‑of‑flame damage to underwater navigation and protective cures.
Storyline
Five centuries ago, the Kingdom of Granville waged a brutal war against Darces the Dark Overlord. The legendary warrior Magi, wielding six enchanted swords and an armor that could only be pierced by the strongest magic, confronted Darces. Five of his blades were elemental, forged from the rarest metals, while the sixth, Tores, was made of an even more potent alloy. With those weapons, Magi defeated Darces and banished him, then eventually passed away.
On a storm‑laden night, Darces returns, echoing an ancient prophecy that speaks of a shadowed veil, the rise of the Fire of Serpents, and the merging of five into one. The elements now answer his call, threatening the realm once more. In Dungeon Magic, players must uncover the lost swords, restore balance, and prevent the darkness from swallowing Granville again.
