Summary

DuckTales 2 lets you hop around Scrooge’s world in any order you like, swapping the original’s clunky cane jump for a smoother swing. The upgraded cane can pull levers, fire cannons and bounce off springy flowers, while new hooks let you hang from ceilings and rafts glide over water, opening shortcuts that feel fresh each time you revisit a stage.

Every level hides a map fragment in a treasure chest, and collecting all of them unlocks a secret sixth stage where McDuck’s lost treasure awaits. After each run you can drop into a shop, spending the coins you’ve hoarded on extra lives, recovery items, or upgrades from Gyro Gearloose that reveal hidden passages.

Critics praised the tight controls and bright graphics, though many noted it was essentially “more of the same” and a bit short. Because it arrived late in the NES’s life cycle, the cartridge is now a collector’s rarity, and it finally resurfaced in the 2017 Disney Afternoon Collection for modern consoles.

Storyline

Duck Tales 2 opens with Huey rushing to Scrooge McDuck, clutching a torn piece of a treasure map drawn by Scrooge’s father, Fergus McDuck. Inspired, Scrooge launches an expedition to recover the missing map pieces, unaware that his rival Flintheart Glomgold is racing him for the Lost Treasure of McDuck.

Scrooge and his nephews travel to five distinct locations – the roaring Niagara Falls, a pirate‑infested ship in the Bermuda Triangle, the mysterious island of Mu, the ancient pyramids of Egypt, and a haunted Scottish castle. Each stage hides a unique treasure guarded by its own boss, and collecting all five clues points to the final treasure’s location.

After clearing the main stages, Glomgold kidnaps Webby and holds her for ransom aboard the Bermuda Triangle ship. Scrooge delivers the treasures, only to discover the “Glomgold” is actually the D‑1000, a shapeshifting robot programmed to destroy him. The robot is defeated, but Glomgold sinks the ship and tries to take Scrooge and the loot with it.

Scrooge and Webby escape as the ship goes down, and Launchpad later recovers the lost treasures. Scrooge remarks that family and friendship matter more than gold. A bad ending triggers if the player runs out of money, showing Glomgold claiming the treasure and being hailed as the world’s greatest adventurer, much to Scrooge’s fury.
