Summary
Bad Dudes Vs. DragonNinja—known on the NES simply as Bad Dudes and in Japan/Europe as DragonNinja—is a side‑scrolling cooperative beat ’em up that lets two players team up, one in white pants and the other in green. The core moves feel straightforward: punches, kicks and jumps, but the game rewards timing with flashy specials like spinning kicks and a charge‑up "inner energy" attack that sweeps everything in front of you. Scattered power‑ups spice the action, turning ordinary fights into knife‑ or nunchaku‑wielding brawls, while health packs and extra‑time bonuses keep the pace frantic. The NES version, released by Data East USA in 1989 with Marc Ericksen’s cover art, swaps the arcade’s tongue‑in‑cheek political nods—President Ronnie disappears and the rescued leader now resembles George H. W. Bush. A quirky "I'm bad!" line appears only in this cartridge, giving the American port its own personality.
Storyline
The NES classic Bad Dudes opens in Washington, D.C., where President Ronnie – a thinly veiled nod to Ronald Reagan – has been snatched by the villainous Dragon Ninja. A Secret Service agent confronts the street‑wise duo, Blade and Striker, and asks, “Are you a bad enough dude to rescue Ronnie?”
The Bad Dudes chase the kidnappers from downtown New York City onto a roaring big‑rig truck, then plunge into a storm sewer, cut through a dense forest, and board a Southern Pacific freight train (where a frozen Chelnov can be spotted). Their pursuit continues through a dark cave and finally into an underground factory where the Dragon Ninja awaits.
After a fierce showdown, the heroes defeat the ninja, rescue President Ronnie, and celebrate with hamburgers. Ronnie, burger in hand, presents the duo with a commemorative statue while security guards line the White House backdrop, cementing their status as the ultimate “bad dudes."
