Summary
Drac’s Night Out is a lost NES title that never made it to shelves. Developed by Mark Lesser and Rex Bradford of Microsmiths, the game was a bizarre blend of gothic humor and product placement, built around a partnership with Reebok that added Pump‑powered shoes to Count Dracula himself. In play, you guide the cape‑clad vampire through his own castle, using a hypnotic stare or clever levers to set off Rube‑Goldberg‑style traps and subdue hostile villagers. Defeated locals become blood sources, and a temporary bat form lets you soar over towers, while scattered Pump power‑ups grant brief speed bursts and higher jumps. The prototype surfaced years later, and its ROM is now circulating online, offering a glimpse of what might have been a strangely memorable licensed oddity.
Storyline
Drac's Night Out puts you in the shoes of Count Dracula, oddly sporting Reebok Pumps, as you make your way down the corridors of your own castle. You must dodge hostile villagers while hunting for clues, then burst out into a sprawling town to locate your bride, Mina.
Villagers hand out maps and compasses, and both aggressive mobs and peaceful townsfolk roam the streets. After draining enough blood, Dracula briefly turns into an invulnerable wolf, speeding across the map.
He can also sip sleeping villagers, turning them into vampiresses that point the way to Mina. Keys, flowers and other items drop from NPCs, opening gates and homes, while hidden underground tunnels provide shortcuts. When the building that houses Mina is finally entered, a congratulatory picture of the couple walking together appears and the game moves to the next round.
