Summary

Door Door is a quirky single‑screen puzzle‑platformer that lets you control Chun, a tiny round creature in a baseball cap, as he darts across ladders and platforms. The core mechanic is deceptively simple: approach a sliding door from the side of its handle, sprint through to fling it open, herd the marching aliens inside, then slam the door shut before they can scramble out. Once a door is sealed it stays shut for the rest of the level, forcing you to plan each move carefully.

Every alien touch is fatal, and occasional bombs or nails add a lethal surprise that can end a run in an instant. When you lose a life (provided you have continues), the level restarts with all doors reset and any previously trapped foes disappearing, giving you a clean slate to rethink your strategy. The top‑of‑screen bar tracks your score, high score, level number, and remaining lives, rewarding you with extra lives at 10,000 points and then every 20,000 thereafter.

Scoring isn’t just about door‑traps; fleeting sweets—striped candy, ice pops, lollipops, bowls of ice cream, cake slices, even a Mahjong tile—pop up for quick grabs, boosting your tally. As the stages progress, the puzzles become abstract: the eighth level’s lone Otapyon must be coaxed across a maze of platforms, while the tenth pits two Namegon aliens far apart on a flat field, demanding a deliberate sacrifice of one to bring the other within reach. By the 50th floor, timing is so precise that the only viable path may be to intentionally lose a life and restart.

There’s no true ending; after the final stage the game loops back to level one, preserving your accumulated score so you can chase ever‑higher totals. That endless cycle, combined with the blend of quick reflexes and forward‑thinking strategy, is why Door Door remains a beloved oddity among retro titles.

Storyline

In Door Door for the NES, the player controls Chun, a tiny egg‑shaped creature wearing a baseball cap. Chun must navigate a series of platforms while avoiding a relentless pursuit. The game’s core tension comes from four alien AI opponents that follow deterministic algorithm paths.
The most predictable hunters, Namegon and Amechan, chase Chun along the shortest possible route. Invekun takes a roundabout approach, using ladders to cut off the player. Otapyon, meanwhile, shadows Chun’s jumps, mimicking his vertical movement.
