Summary

Go Nagai’s Devilman bursts onto the Famicom/NES as a striking blend of graphic storytelling and action‑adventure. The game throws you into six distinct stages—blazing fire zones, icy caverns, watery depths, covert demon‑research labs, the shattered ruins of Tokyo, and more hidden areas to uncover. What’s cool is the roster: you can control Devilman himself, his human alter‑ego Akira, a handful of allies, or even his girlfriend Miki, each offering a slightly different feel. The level design leans heavily on atmospheric backdrops, letting the neon‑lit devastation of a post‑apocalyptic city contrast with the stark chill of frozen chambers. It’s a nostalgic ride that captures the chaotic spirit of the original manga while rewarding exploration across its varied environments.

Storyline

In the NES title Devil Man (often just called Devilman), the action begins high atop the Himalayas where ancient devils have been imprisoned beneath the ice for ten thousand years. Their four‑faced master, Archdemon Xenon, awakens and unleashes the horde upon an unsuspecting world, much to humanity’s chagrin. Players step into the shoes of Akira Fudo, a young man who can merge with the powerful ancient demon Amon. This fusion transforms him into the titular Devilman, granting the abilities needed to confront the rising evil. The game’s storyline pits this newly‑born hero against Xenon’s legion in a desperate fight to stop the ancient menace.
