Summary

Demon Sword (sometimes just called Demon Sword) feels like a hidden gem from the NES era, especially when you notice how the sword itself grows as you collect its shattered pieces. The platforming is tight – you can flip direction mid‑air, sprint along tree trunks, and toss a mix of arrow darts, power beams and the titular Demon Sword at the hordes that block each boss. The Japanese version throws in six extra stages, more magic spells and a simpler life‑count system, while the North American release swaps that for a vitality gauge, upgraded shuriken power and tougher enemies. Even the box art tells a story: the U.S. cover shows a bronzed, bare‑chested warrior, yet the sprite inside is a lean figure in a red kimono, a contrast that hints at the game’s quirky localization choices.

Storyline

Demon Sword – Release the Power opens with an evil demon dominating the world, its inhabitants cowering in fear. The only hope lies with Victar, a man from a small village who possesses a legendary sword that can end the demon’s reign. However, the blade has been shattered into three pieces, each hidden in a different realm. Victar must journey through three distinct worlds to recover the broken fragments and reforge the weapon. Once restored, the sword will finally be able to defeat the demon.
