Summary

Deep Dungeon III: Yushi he no Tabi (often just called Deep Dungeon III) finally broke the series’ single‑dungeon mold by giving players a sprawling world with multiple towns and dungeons to wander. The biggest surprise is the party system: you can recruit up to three companions, each chosen from ranger, magician or priest, and swap them out when you encounter other pre‑created characters deep in the caves. The hero, a swordsman, remains the linchpin—if he falls, the adventure ends, no matter how many allies you’ve gathered. The game keeps the familiar level‑up stat tweaking from its predecessor, and it even skips random battles when you’re over‑leveled for a zone, sparing you endless grinding. A quirky, sometimes frustrating mechanic lets the hero accidentally drop his weapon, costing a turn to re‑equip, while the only title in the series that actually hands you gold for defeating foes, eliminating the need to farm respawning chests for cash.
