Summary

Crash 'n' the Boys: Street Challenge lets you pick from four rival high‑school crews plus a computer‑controlled squad, each with five athletes tailored to different skills. Before each contest you can stroll through a mall and stock up on power‑ups, paying for them with the medals you earn during the tournament. The medals are the true win condition, so you have to balance buying upgrades with saving enough to stay on top of the leaderboard.

The title mixes individual events—Hammer Throw and Roof Top Jumping—with head‑to‑head battles such as 400 meter hurdles, Swimming and a street Fighting stage, all run in a single‑elimination bracket. Up to four friends can join the fun; because only two teams ever face off at once, the third and fourth player simply swap controllers between heats, making an extra multitap unnecessary. The result is a fast‑paced, arcade‑style Olympic brawl that rewards strategy as much as quick reflexes.

Storyline

After the events of Downtown Nekketsu March: Super‑Awesome Field Day, Mamoru Todo organizes a new sports showdown aimed at taking down Kunio. Theodore “Todd” Thornley IV, still smarting from a humiliating loss to Jeff “Crash” Cooney and his Southside High crew at the All‑City Track Meet, throws down a Street Challenge and invites two elite schools plus a team funded by his rich dad, clearly stacking the odds against Crash. The player must guide Crash’s Southside squad through the gauntlet; victory triggers an ending where Crash meets Todd’s father, who congratulates him and offers a peace overture that Crash skeptically rejects. Meanwhile, Todd and his scheming sidekick Skip try to sow discord by slipping flowers and false accusations to Team Thornley, only to have the gifts tossed away with a note reading “Todd is a total loser!”—a sign the rivals have earned each other’s respect. In the final twist, both Todd and Crash swear to settle their rivalry on the ice when hockey season arrives.
