Summary
I’ve always been curious about the NES version of Cool World—basically the console’s very own port of the quirky movie tie‑in. Even though it never made a massive splash here, the cartridge is a neat reminder of early ’90s cross‑media experiments, squeezing that neon‑filled, cartoon‑metropolis into an 8‑bit framework. The fact that developers managed to cram any version of the film’s wild visual vibe onto the NES is impressive given the hardware’s limits. For collectors, it’s a quirky footnote: a portable slice of that zany world, tucked into the cartridge slot of my old Nintendo.
Storyline
Cool World follows Detective Frank Harris as he dives into an alternate dimension where cartoon doodles live. The balance between the two realms hinges on the Golden Spike of Power, a relic that was hidden atop the Ocean Hotel in Las Vegas. A mischievous doodle named Holli steals the Spike, hoping its power will turn her into a real human, but her plan threatens to collapse both worlds. Before the Spike can be misused, Holli tears a map that reveals the five tunnel connections between Earth and Cool World into pieces. Harris must locate each fragment, restore the map, and stop Holli before the dimensions crumble.
