Summary

Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2 is a side‑scrolling platformer that lets you team up with a friend – Player 1 is Chip, Player 2 is Dale – and even hurl your partner at enemies as a quirky weapon. The stages march forward in a straight line, except for the amusement‑park segment where the first three levels can be tackled in any order before the finale, and each character can only take three hits unless you earn extra durability along the way. You’ll spend time picking up acorns, crates, barrels and balls to toss at foes, while the game’s simple duck‑and‑jump controls keep the action flowing.

The soundtrack earned a nod from GamePro for its "chipper" 8‑bit tunes, even if the overall difficulty leans toward beginners and intermediate players. It was a runner‑up for GamePro’s 1993 NES Game of the Year, falling just short of Kirby’s Adventure, and later resurfaced in The Disney Afternoon Collection and the 2026 Switch release, keeping the nostalgic vibe alive for new audiences.

Storyline

The Rescue Rangers catch a news report that a bomb has been set to explode at a local restaurant. Chip, Dale, Gadget, Monterey Jack and Zipper rush in to defuse it and corner the rabbit who planted the device. He confesses that Fat Cat, fresh out of prison, ordered the attack to steal the Urn of the Pharaoh from a docked cargo ship.

The Rangers chase Fat Cat to the docks, but the ship yields no clues. Zipper spots the villain fleeing into a warehouse, where Chip and Dale are ambushed and locked inside a giant refrigerator. They escape just in time, only to see Fat Cat open the Urn and unleash evil spirits that fill the warehouse. The chipmunks retrieve the relic and reseal it.

Fat Cat then lures the team to an amusement park for a final showdown. After battling through Clock Tower, Western World and Future World, the Rangers break into the control room. Fat Cat attacks with a massive robot modeled after himself, which the Rangers destroy.

With the ceiling collapsing, Chip and Dale lose sight of Fat Cat and are forced to flee. Reunited, they swear they’ll stop the feline felon the next time he shows up.
