Summary

Captain Planet and the Planeteers on the NES lets you jump between two very different styles of play. In the first half of each of the five levels you pilot the Planeteers’ Eco‑Jet, skimming over scenery while any touch of a bird, projectile, or even the background sends you straight to a game over. The second half swaps you into Captain Planet himself, charging forward to take down an ecovillain in a classic side‑scroll beat‑em‑up.

The stages are spread across recognizable locales: the rugged wilderness of Yellowstone National Park, the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean, the savannas of Africa, and the icy expanse of Antarctica. Each location is split into the two distinct phases, giving the game a rhythm that feels both frantic and heroic.

When it hit the shelves, Game Players magazine gave the title a modest 4 out of 10, calling it below average overall, but it did single out the graphics as a bright spot in an otherwise uneven experience.
