Summary

Captain America and the Avengers on the NES takes the arcade’s superhero brawl and reshapes it into a side‑scrolling action platformer. You play as either Captain America or Hawkeye, each equipped with their signature weapons—the indestructible shield and quick‑draw arrows—while navigating levels that culminate in a rescue of Vision and Iron Man from the Mandarin. The final showdown pits the duo against the villainous Red Skull, mixing hand‑to‑hand combat with occasional shooting sections that echo the arcade’s flair. Though developed in Japan, this version never launched there, turning it into a sought‑after import for North American collectors. Two‑player co‑op lets friends team up, but the limited roster and altered level design set this NES title apart from its four‑player arcade predecessor.

Storyline

Captain America and the Avengers on the NES drops you into a world where the Red Skull has gathered an army of super‑villains to seize global control. As Captain America (joined by Hawkeye) you fight through waves of generic henchmen and then clash with a roster that includes Klaw, the Living Laser, Whirlwind, a Sentinel, the Wizard, the Grim Reaper, the Mandarin, Juggernaut, Ultron, the Controller and Crossbones. The NES version adds a rescue mission: before the final showdown you must free Vision and Iron Man, who are being held captive by the Mandarin. After the rescue, the heroes confront the Mandarin again and then press on to defeat the Red Skull himself, ending his takeover plot.
