Summary

The Bugs Bunny Blowout (known on the title screen as Happy Birthday Bugs) is a side‑scrolling platformer that lets you swing Bugs’ trusty mallet at enemies, deflect projectiles, and smash bricks. Collecting hearts restores health while carrots rack up bonus points, and you can even hop on top of foes without taking damage.

Each stage ends with a showdown against a jealous Warner Bros. character—Foghorn Leghorn, Sylvester, the Tasmanian Devil, and others—who try to steal the spotlight from Bugs. Daffy Duck is a special case: you can’t beat him, you just dodge him to reach the carrot that opens the next level, and despite the cover, Porky Pig never appears.

After clearing a level, Bugs can play a quick minigame to earn extra lives, up to a maximum of 99. The cover art was crafted by Larry Grossman, and even though the packaging calls it The Bugs Bunny Blowout, the title screen proudly displays the original Japanese name, Happy Birthday Bugs.

Storyline

Bugs Bunny Blowout follows the hare on his own 50th‑birthday quest. While Bugs races home for the celebration, a group of jealous Looney Tunes pals—who weren’t invited—set a series of pranks and obstacles in his way.

Their goal is to delay him long enough to finish preparing the surprise party themselves. Each level pits Bugs against these envious friends, turning a simple trip home into a chaotic chase. In the end, the tricks are revealed as part of the birthday surprise.
