Summary

The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout (known as Happy Birthday Bugs in Japan and The Bugs Bunny Blowout in Europe) feels like a quirky celebration of the hare’s 50th birthday. I’m instantly drawn to Bugs’ trusty mallet – it’s not just a weapon, it also deflects projectiles, smashes bricks and lets you hop on foes without taking a hit. Collecting hearts to patch up health and carrots for extra points adds a tasty layer of strategy, while the occasional Daffy Duck obstacle forces you to time your jumps just right.

Each stage has its own flavor: a sunny grassland, a scorching desert, a twilight canyon, dark caves, a lush jungle and a mysterious temple. After the platforming run, a quick minigame offers a chance at extra lives, up to a neat 99. The boss battles are a nostalgic parade of Warner pals – Foghorn Leghorn, Sylvester, the Tasmanian Devil and more – each demanding a final mallet swing. The cover art, crafted by Larry Grossman, even hints at the fun inside, though Porky Pig never makes an appearance despite his spot on the box.

Storyline

Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout follows the hare on a mission to reach his own 50th‑birthday celebration. As Bugs makes his way toward the party, a group of jealous Looney Tunes friends—who weren’t invited—conspire to keep him from arriving on time. They set traps and play tricks, hoping to stall the star rabbit until the surprise party is finally ready. By the time Bugs finally reaches his house, he discovers the elaborate ruse his pals have pulled. The whole adventure is a race against time, driven by envy and the desire to give Bugs the birthday he deserves.
