Summary
Bomberman II expands the classic maze‑bomb mechanics with several fresh twists that kept the series lively. On the NES you still carve a path through solid blocks by planting timed explosives, but now power‑ups pop out of busted walls—some stretch the blast radius, others speed up detonation. A single door in each level teleports you forward, and after a game‑over a password records your level, bomb count and strength so you can pick up where you left off.
What really sets it apart is multiplayer. Two players can clash in Vs Mode, and a three‑player Battle Mode pops up when you hook up the Four Score. In Europe the game came as Dynablaster, and it finally reached North America in early 1993. The Japanese edition resurfaced in 2026 as part of the Super Bomberman Collection, letting a new generation enjoy its retro charm.
Storyline
In Bomberman II for the NES, you take control of White Bomberman, who has been framed by Black Bomber for a bank robbery and thrown into prison. The opening sets up a classic wrongful‑accusation plot, forcing White Bomberman to clear his name. Each level is a prison cell filled with breakable blocks and hostile enemies. By planting bombs, you blast through obstacles, defeat foes, and solve the room‑by‑room puzzles that guard your escape route. The ultimate goal is to break out of the jail and bring the real culprit, Black Bomber, to justice.
