Summary

Big Nose the Caveman is a gritty side‑scrolling platformer that pits a hungry caveman against four distinct islands—Paradise, Monster, Terror and Chaos—each packed with treacherous traps, lava pits and unforgiving enemies. The core loop revolves around smashing foes with a stone‑laced club; up to three stones can be fired at a time, and only those projectiles save you from the one‑hit death penalty that looms over every jump. Collecting bones throughout the levels lets you browse scattered shops for spells, upgrades and other items, turning every corridor into a tiny marketplace of survival. The title’s difficulty is amplified by a harsh checkpoint system: lose all lives and you start from the very beginning, with no mid‑run saves. Though a Master System/Game Gear version called Dinobasher was fully finished, it never saw the light of day, and a sequel, Big Nose Freaks Out, arrived the following year.

Storyline

Long ago, a hungry caveman named Big Nose stepped out of his cave and spotted a pterodactyl soaring overhead. Convinced the winged beast would make a perfect meal, he grabbed his trusty club and gave chase. The pursuit quickly turned into a perilous adventure that stretched far beyond his familiar surroundings. Big Nose finds himself leaping across a chain of islands, each more treacherous than the last, as he hunts for his elusive dinner. The game “Big Nose the Caveman” (often just called Big Nose) follows his frantic trek, mixing platforming challenges with the constant threat of prehistoric predators.
