Summary

Baseball Stars II on the NES keeps the arcade spirit alive while adding a surprising amount of depth for a home console. The game lets you juggle two‑player matchups, shift defensive formations on the fly, and even watch your roster and player ratings without pausing the action. Two extra batting stances appear on the pre‑made squads, and the revamped pitch control feels tighter, while bunting is now a simple press‑and‑hold rather than a half‑swing. Upgrading players still uses the familiar 15‑point system, but each upgrade now hands out 1‑5 random points and costs noticeably more, turning maxed‑out stars into a long‑term grind. Hired players keep generic tags like “STAR 5” or “ROOK 2,” which can lead to multiple identical names on the same roster because you can’t rename them. The league mode supports up to 125 games across six teams, tracking stats such as batting average, home runs, RBI, ERA, wins and saves, though a quirky bug hides the last pitcher on custom squads from the Top 10 leaderboards. New home‑run animations—like the “Power connect” graphic for two‑run shots or a rare terrier‑chasing scene for dramatic grand slams—add a nostalgic visual flair that sets this version apart.
