Summary

Barcode World is a quirky Japanese‑only experiment that married the Nintendo Family Computer with Epoch’s Barcode Battler II handheld. The game shipped with a dedicated Famicom‑Barcode Battler interface cable, so the console could read barcodes from a special deck of cards – even a “White Card” that let you scan any product you could find around the house. By feeding everyday consumer barcodes into the system, players could summon characters from Sunsoft’s own franchises, such as Hebereke and Gimmick!, turning grocery‑store receipts into unexpected allies. Although the hardware bundle never left Japan, the concept lives on: modern emulators like FCEUX include support for the original scanning setup, letting retro enthusiasts recreate the odd‑ball strategy experience on today’s PCs.
