Summary

Archon on the NES turns a chess‑like board into a battlefield where each move can erupt into an arcade‑style duel. The 9×9 grid is dotted with light, dark and even oscillating squares, and a piece’s health gets a boost when it lands on a tile that matches its own side’s color. Each of the eight unit types fights differently – a pawn darts forward with a short sword, a dragon launches ranged attacks, and a golem hurls a massive boulder – so positioning becomes a puzzle of matching abilities to terrain.

Adding a magical twist, the wizard (or sorceress for the Dark side) can unleash seven one‑time spells such as Teleport, Heal, and Imprison, reshaping the board in an instant. The AI learns from your tactics, making each encounter feel fresh. Victory comes from seizing all five power points, wiping out the opponent’s forces, or imprisoning their last piece, while a mutual destruction of the final two units ends in a tie.
