Summary

American Gladiators on the NES turns the TV spectacle into a series of quirky side‑scrolling and overhead challenges. The Joust pits you against four gladiators on a series of moving platforms, demanding precise jumps while the opponents shriek each time they’re knocked off. Human Cannonball forces you to time leaps from a swinging rope as the platform rises and falls, adding a frantic rhythm to the battle. The Wall is a test of stamina: you tap A and B in sync with the D‑pad to scramble up handholds while gladiators zip past twice as fast as you, making every ascent feel like a frantic climb. Powerball stands out as the most faithful recreation – dodge three gladiators, toss balls into five baskets, and you can even snag a 1‑UP for flawless runs. The Eliminator strings together I‑beams, handbikes, conveyor belts and a cascade of zip‑lines, each segment faster than the last, demanding split‑second timing to survive the onslaught of medicine balls. All in all, the game captures the over‑the‑top energy of the show, even if the events are more arcade‑ish than realistic.
