Summary

Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula‑kun, known abroad as Kid Dracula, is Konami’s tongue‑in‑cheek side‑scroller that riffs on the classic Castlevania formula. You control a mischievous youngster version of the vampire lord, hopping through nine quirky stages while picking up spells that let you turn into a bat or unleash spread‑fire and homing attacks. Defeated foes drop coins, which you can gamble in a handful of mini‑games that pop up between levels, adding a playful arcade flavor. The original 1990 Famicom release earned a modest 25/40 from Famitsu, but its catchy tunes—crafted by the Konami Kukeiha Club’s Satoko Miyawaki and Shinji Tasaka—have been celebrated in multiple soundtrack releases, including a 2014 full‑album collection. After a 1993 Game Boy sequel, the title resurfaced in the 2019 Castlevania Anniversary Collection, finally getting an English‑language launch on modern consoles and PC.

Storyline

In Akumajou Special – Boku Dracula‑kun, often referred to simply as Kid Dracula, the self‑proclaimed Demon King awakens from a long sleep only to discover that the evil demon Garamos (also called Galamoth) has challenged him and is wreaking havoc in his castle. Swiping his father’s cape, Kid Dracula sets out on a quest to defeat the monster and reclaim his throne. The adventure takes him across a variety of locales, including the haunted halls of Dracula’s Castle, a bustling New York‑style city, a treacherous sea stage, and the ancient sands of Egypt. After battling through numerous dangers and demons, he finally overcomes Garamos/Galamoth. His victory makes him famous throughout Transylvania, and monsters from across the land flock to his castle hoping to become his friend.
