Summary
Airwolf on the NES drops you straight into the cockpit of the legendary black helicopter from the TV series. The twenty‑mission campaign is split between home bases for refueling, enemy airfields you can blow up, and prisoner‑held locations that demand a careful landing. Armed with a simple missile launch and a rapid‑fire machine gun, I’m forced to juggle destroying enemy jets while snatching captives and scrambling to the level edge before my lives run out. Beam Software’s controls feel deliberately loose, which gives each dogfight a breezy rhythm that can get oddly satisfying despite the overall simplicity. The chiptune soundtrack stands out—its synth‑heavy score is surprisingly atmospheric and often the highlight of a session.
Storyline
Airwolf for the NES drops you into the cockpit of the iconic helicopter, loosely based on the TV series of the same name. After a brief retirement, the pilot is called back into duty to tackle a chain of thirty rescue missions. Each level places enemy aircraft in the sky, which you must shoot down while navigating toward hostile bases. The core objective of every mission is to free prisoners held captive in those enemy installations. As you progress, the layout of each mission shifts, keeping the challenges fresh and demanding precise piloting skills.
