Summary
Adventures in the Magic Kingdom drops you into a Disney‑themed park that feels stitched together from Disneyland, Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland. You wander an overworld map, choosing which ride‑inspired mini‑game to tackle: a top‑down Autopia dash against Panhandle Pete, a branching train run on a Big Thunder Mountain track, a side‑scroll haunted‑mansion chase where candles become your ammunition, a pirate‑island rescue, and a first‑person Space Mountain flight dodging asteroids and blasting foes. Between rides, mischievous kids run a trivia booth, rewarding correct Disney‑movie answers with key clues that unlock the final silver key. Yoko Shimomura’s upbeat chiptune score rides you through each stage. Critics were harsh—*Total!* gave it a 44/100, lambasting the collision detection and calling it a bland Disney cash‑in. Still, the blend of vehicle, scrolling and space‑shooting segments gives the game a quirky variety that Disney fans remember.
Storyline
In Adventures in the Magic Kingdom for the NES, you play as a nameless hero summoned by Mickey Mouse. Goofy has accidentally left the golden key for the Cinderella Castle gate inside the castle, so Mickey asks you to locate six silver keys scattered throughout the kingdom. Each silver key unlocks a different area, and collecting all of them lets you finally open the castle gate. Once the gate is opened, Mickey congratulates you and the Disney parade rolls out in full splendor. The game’s simple premise revolves around this key‑finding quest, turning the iconic Disney park into a platforming adventure for players to explore.
