You play as an unnamed U.S. Navy ace pilot on a revenge mission to wipe out the Japanese naval aerial forces that struck an American carrier. Across 16 challenging stages you must destroy waves of enemy aircraft, surface ships and submarines.
The climax pits you against the massive battleship Yamato, the game's final boss, bringing the campaign to a decisive finish. The title itself nods to the historic June 1942 Battle of Midway, even though the in‑game vessels carry made‑up names.
