Summary
True Lies on the Game Gear drops you straight into the chaotic world of secret agent Harry Tasker, where the stakes are a nuclear holocaust and a terrorist group called the Crimson Jihad. The handheld version pares the console’s nine‑stage saga down to five distinct locations—chateau, mall, park, docks and an office building—each rebuilt with its own layout, so even fans of the original will feel the surprise of new challenges. Gameplay stays true to the run‑and‑gun roots: you start with an unlimited‑ammo pistol that must be reloaded after every fifteen shots, and you can pick up an Uzi, shotgun or the ever‑dangerous flamethrower, plus grenades and mines that are limited and scattered throughout the levels. A health gauge and a strict civilian‑kill rule keep the tension high; three civilian casualties force a stage restart and cost a life. While the Game Gear’s tiny screen brings colorful sprites and movie stills before each level, the hardware’s limits show up as noticeable slowdown when more than two enemies crowd the screen, clunky controls, and a missing pause function. Still, the stripped‑down experience captures the movie’s explosive vibe without the romance, making it a quirky, fast‑paced relic for any retro‑gaming collection.
Storyline
The Game Gear action game True Lies puts players in the shoes of secret agent Harry Tasker. Following the plot of the 1994 film, Tasker is tasked with thwarting a terrorist scheme. The mastermind behind the plot is Salim Abu Aziz, whose plans must be stopped before they unfold. Players chase leads, battle henchmen, and work to dismantle the threat across a series of side‑scrolling levels.
