Summary

Tempo Jr., often just called “Tempo,” turns a Game Gear handheld into a tiny dance‑floor on the planet Rhythmia. You play as a hip‑hopping grasshopper who must rescue the world’s groove from the gloomy King Dirge, whose swarm of tune‑stealing ants is stealing all the beats.

The gameplay feels like a rhythmic puzzle‑platformer: Tempo boogies, spins, snaps his fingers, and even flings musical notes to zap the ant invaders. Each move syncs with a catchy chiptune soundtrack, so you’re literally dancing to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.

It’s a vivid splash of color and catchy beats that cuts through the usual Game Gear fare, making it a perfect showcase of how the handheld could handle quirky, music‑driven action.

Storyline

Tempo Jr. follows the rhythm‑filled adventure of the young DJ Tempo as he prepares for the Major Minor Show, a massive concert and music festival.
Just before the dance contest, his friend Katy is kidnapped by the sinister Zenza, who wants to sabotage their performance. Tempo races through colorful levels, using his turntable powers to battle enemies and rescue Katy before the show starts. The clock ticks down, and the fate of the performance rests on his ability to free her in time.
