Summary

Tails' Skypatrol feels like a quirky side‑quest tucked into the Sonic universe, letting me pilot Tails on a constant hover while I dodge forest canopies and castle spires. The flight meter drains steadily, so I’m always hunting mint candies to stay aloft, and the gold ring I fling doubles as a weapon and a tool for snagging hidden items. Each of the five scrolling stages ends with a showdown against one of Witchcart’s henchmen, and the unlimited continues let me retry a level from its very start without penalty. What’s especially interesting is that the game wasn’t born as a Sonic title at all – it began as an educational demo for a cancelled handheld, then got repurposed for the Game Gear and handed a Tails makeover. Critics were split: some praised the fresh aerial mechanics, while others complained about clunky controls and a steep difficulty curve, making it a love‑it‑or‑leave‑it experience for Tails fans.

Storyline

In the Game Gear title *Tails no Skypatrol*, Sonic’s trusty sidekick Miles “Tails” Prower takes to the skies in his little plane and spots a seemingly deserted tropical island. He lands to investigate and soon encounters an elderly woman who proclaims herself the great Wendy Witchcart, claiming ownership of the island and threatening anyone who opposes her with a fate of being turned into crystal.

Witchcart’s henchmen patrol the island as Tails darts through five scrolling levels, using his flying abilities to dodge obstacles and confront the minions. The villain’s twisted scheme is to transform the island’s inhabitants—and any dissenters—into glittering crystal statues, effectively cementing her rule. Determined, Tails chases after Witchcart and her crew, battling through each stage to halt the crystal‑turning ritual.

By the end of *Tails no Skypatrol*, Tails manages to thwart Witchcart’s plans, preventing the island’s conquest and saving its residents from a permanent crystal fate.
