Summary

Playing Star Trek: The Next Generation feels like stepping into an episode of the series. On the main bridge I can wander between the Conn, communications, engineering and the main computer, each terminal offering a different slice of ship‑wide control, from plotting courses to researching mission data. The conference room doubles as a subtle hint system, briefing the crew and nudging me toward the next objective.

When it’s time for an away mission, I assemble a four‑person team, balancing tactical, technical, strength and health stats to match the task at hand. Switching between portraits lets me use each member’s phaser, tricorder or medical kit to solve puzzles and interact with alien environments.

If an enemy vessel appears, red‑alert klaxons sound and the view shifts to a tactical grid where I pilot the Enterprise, firing phasers and photon torpedoes while dodging incoming fire. Damage can cripple systems, forcing repairs at engineering consoles or nearby starbases.

The whole experience is packaged as a hands‑on tutorial for the holodeck, turning the classic Star Trek adventure into a compact simulation that rewards curiosity and careful crew management.

Storyline

Star Trek – The Next Generation (Game Gear) drops you into Federation space and the Romulan Neutral Zone, where the mysterious Integrated Field Derandomizer (IFD) threatens to reshape matter and energy. The USS Enterprise‑D orbits a red giant near the border, making the ship invisible to Romulan sensors while it monitors rising Romulan activity.

A distress call from Vulcan geologist Dr. T'Laris on Codis Mu VI launches the adventure; her dig site has been attacked by Romulans who are still on the planet. As you follow the clues, the Enterprise encounters hostile Chodak mollusks, learns of the extinct Senatorious who originally wielded the IFD, and meets the crippled Eunacians who warn Picard about the upcoming IFD Trials.

The IFD Trials consist of three tests that any present race may attempt; failure would doom the Federation and enslave countless worlds. Your mission is to gather information, aid the Eunacians, and ultimately decide the fate of the IFD before the trials begin.
