Summary

Side Pocket on the Game Gear feels like a pocket‑billiards arcade cabinet squeezed into a tiny handheld. The core "Pocket Game" mode challenges you to rack up points by sinking balls in order, chaining shots, or hitting a flashing star that can hand you extra lives, points, or even a bonus round. Miss two turns in a row or scratch, and you lose a life—so precision and a bit of luck are constantly at play.

Beyond the solo grind, the Game Gear adds a practice version of the 9‑Ball mode and a set of 19 trick‑shot challenges where you must pocket every ball in a single stroke, using spin, masse or jump shots. The graphics are a trimmed‑down homage to the Genesis version, with 8‑bit city backdrops that still echo the film‑inspired characters reminiscent of "The Color of Money." All of this packs a surprisingly deep pool experience into a portable format.
